We're Looking for Conservation buyers

Feb 25th, 2008

For the second straight year Edisto Realty will be the Edisto Island Open Land Trust’s “Premier Corporate Sponsor.”

Dedicated to conserving the rural, family-oriented character of Edisto, Edisto Realty’s founder David Lybrand was also a founding member of the Edisto land trust.

Maintaining that relationship with the community has been a priority of owner Matthew Kizer, who grew up on Edisto. Matthew played a pivotal role this year in helping to secure conservation easements on Indigo Farms and the Creek Farms property, both critical to the scenic Highway 174 view shed.

Those two easements totaled 180 acres and were a significant part of a record year for conservation organizations on Edisto.

Altogether 1657 acres of property were protected this year by the Edisto Island Open Land Trust, the Nature Conservancy, and the Low Country Open Land Trust. That’s roughly 3 per cent of the total land area on the island in just one year. Continued success depends upon a partnership between businesses like Edisto Realty, the many people who visit Edisto and the people of this community.

“When the opportunity arises to preserve some of the island’s natural beauty while helping our client’s realize their personal vision of their future we work hard to do so,” says Kizer. “ we’re currently helping to market a 24 acre property for the trust and looking for a conservation minded buyer who would enjoy having a piece of property perfect for a small horse farm. In my mind the conservation easement on this property is an asset. It offers someone the chance to partner with this special island in helping to secure the community’s future. It’s going to happen and Edisto is going to preserve the qualities that attract us all here.”
