June is here and the summer season is in full swing

Jun 2nd, 2008

June is here and the summer season is in full swing.

The beach is spotted with umbrellas.

Early morning finds visitors walking the beach collecting sea shells. The cool or the morning beckons bike riders or suggests a walk in the state park, perhaps to the shell midden.

By lunch time, the heat of the day finds many shopping in our local gift shops… Fish or Cut Bait Gallery, Shore Thing Gift Shop, or the Edistonian just to name a few. Others relax, simply sitting on a screened porch reading a good book or enjoying the breeze. On the beach children are flying kites or digging moats around sand castles. Some of our more active types book a charter fishing excursion. The island offers a wealth of history and van tours are a great way to get a taste, as is a visit to our island museum. We’re blessed, there’s plenty to do no matter what your preferences. If you need suggestions don’t hesitate to ask!

Evening finds many island visitors back on the beach, particularly down at the point where sunset is a five star attraction.

Then it’s off to dinner. Enjoy local seafood, a good steak, fish and chips, something lighter, or fine dining at the Dining Room at the Plantation in Wyndham. Edisto offers it all and you’ll enjoy trying the various places. Or make your own from fresh Edisto seafood and vegetables.

Where to get them? If it’s locally caught fish or shrimp or Atlantic blue crabs Edisto Seafood, Edisto Eats, or Flowers Seafood immediately come to mind. You can find their addresses here on this website.

And for vegetables the selection is equally fine. While you’re on Edisto visit the local vegetable stands: Geechee Boy is conveniently located as you come onto the Island; Kings Market offers a variety of pre-prepared foods in addition to local produce much of it grown in the fields behind the market. You can also find local favorites like tomato pie ready to heat and eat. And finally, George and Pink’s is an island landmark. Located on historic Eddingsville Beach Rd., this island favorite was recently shared with the world through SOUTHERN LIVING MAGAZINE. Suggestion? Miss Pink’s boiled peanuts are a local legend.

Edisto is best enjoyed at a slower pace of life. Good food, good friends, nature, surrounded by history and offered to you for your vacation pleasure.

Thanks for coming.
